Welcome to my ongoing Youtube painting series "From Film to Canvas"!
In this series, I take iconic moments from films and translate them into paintings as a way to study composition,
atmosphere, and storytelling.

EPISODE 1: PRIDE & PREJUDICE - Elizabeth & Mr Darcy
For episode 1, I chose one of the most unforgettable scenes from Pride and Prejudice (2005): Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth’s final moment together, after his second proposal.
It’s such an intimate and tender scene, and this year marks the 20th anniversary of the film, so it felt like the perfect starting point.
I’ve painted with Winsor & Newton water-mixable oils on a canvas panel, exploring how to capture both the emotion of the characters and the misty, dreamlike atmosphere of the scene.

EPISODE 2: PRIDE & PREJUDICE - Oak Tree Scene
I decided to stay with Pride & Prejudice (2005) for another painting because this film is packed with visually stunning scenes.
The oak tree scene, where Elizabeth and her relatives pause their journey, feels like a painting in itself, so atmospheric and full of storytelling potential. This was a real challenge for me since I don’t often paint environments.
Capturing the depth of the tree, the richness of the ground nature, and the balance of detail without losing focus on the characters was out of my comfort zone, but so rewarding.
🎨 Mediums: Winsor & Newton water-mixable oils on canvas panel, Crescent Rendr sketchbook for sketches.

EPISODE 3: THE LORD OF THE RINGS - The Gates of Argonath
For episode 3, I've painted one of the most iconic and majestic moments from The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, the
Gates of Argonath. This scene has always stood out to me: the sheer scale, the history, and the cinematic power of those towering statues.
It’s such a perfect blend of storytelling and atmosphere, and I wanted to see if I could bring that same feeling to canvas.
For this piece, I worked with acrylics on canvas panel, after a few episodes using water-mixable oils. Switching mediums was a bit of a challenge at first, but once I got into the flow, I really enjoyed how quickly acrylics dry and how well they lend themselves to layering and texture. My sketching process, exploration of the composition and mood of the scene, and then through each step of the painting: from the underpainting to the final light and details.

EPISODE 4: THE LORD OF THE RINGS - Balrog vs Gandalf (Coming Soon)
For this episode of From Film to Canvas, I painted one of the most iconic moments from The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring: Gandalf's confrontation with the Balrog on the Bridge of Khazad-dûm.
I was drawn to the dramatic contrast between light and darkness, as well as the epic scale and atmosphere of the scene.
Working in acrylics on canvas panel, I focused on capturing the tension, lighting, and mood that make this moment so memorable.

The episode follows the process from initial studies and underpainting through to the final artwork.
